Anastigmat (0-Series Replica) Fun...but FLARE!

I am happy to report back that the flare issue was quickly and easily resolved by Malcolm Taylor.  The culprit was the inside of the lens barrel, through a combination of the inside being left unpainted brass (duh!) at the factory, as well as oil contamination (presumably as a result of storage/non-use since the camera's manufacture in 2000 the oil separated and travelled away from the focusing lubricant).  The solution was to paint the inside matt black, clean the oil, and install a baffle for good measure.

A new roll of film shows that central veiling flare is no longer an issue (not a single occurrence in 36 shots).  Evidently the lens resists flare quite well, even when shooting unhooded towards the sun. And on those occasions when one can get the lens to flare (the last shot is one such example), it is entirely different from before (namely a very localised effect, and not a central veil) and certainly not surprising or seemingly random in origin, as before.  A unique camera with a wonderful lens.

I am grateful to Leica Shop Vienna who were extremely helpful during the entire process!
