Photoskeptic Posted September 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lately, when I put my camera away and then pick it back up several days later, the camera has switched from DNG to JPEG. All by itself. It also changes color from Adobe to sRGB. I assume it is re-setting itself to default, but why? And how can I stop it? FWIW, I do have the latest firmware installed. Thanks for all replies. John

Peter Kilmister Posted September 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2015 It is quite normal at this time of year for fairies to find their way into your camera bag where they reset everything to exactly the opposite of what you want. Either that or you failed to save the new settings after a firmware update. Try resetting everything again and see what happens ... and make sure the fairly lid is sealed tightly. Photoskeptic Posted September 25, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted September 25, 2015 Do you set user profile(s)? Jeff Hi Jeff, no I don't. I suppose I could, just never thought of it. Oh yeah, one other thing - it reset the file numbering which really was a pain.
Jeff S Posted September 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2015 I asked in part because of this... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/213850-user-profile-glitch/ On the other hand, a profile would ease return to your typical settings.....but that doesn't solve your issue. You might try a fresh battery (or clean contacts)...maybe settings are lost due to some power issue. Jeff
Photoskeptic Posted September 25, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted September 25, 2015 Thanks for trying to help, Jeff. Well, it's sorta a pain to have to check each and every setting every time I turn on the camera. What happened to the good old simple digital M? (I've had M8, M8.2, M9-P and shot with the MM) So, I got out the manual (boy, is it not very helpful - must be something lost in translation) and looked up the profiles thingy and messed about with it a bit then decided it really wasn't something I wanted. You might think I had just acquired this camera but I got it in January - I've taken it on several jaunts around the country - no problems. Suddenly I'm shooting jpegs with renumbered files - sheesh! I guess I'm just going to have to be more careful. Ya know I'm not real fond of all the menu bs in my 810, but at least it will hold a setting! Photoskeptic Posted September 26, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted September 26, 2015 Did you remove the battery while it was sitting? No, battery life in this camera is amazing. At first I thought the fact I use an Optech wrap to store the camera when not in use, that the seam of the wrap was against the "Set" button might be causing the problem, but with the camera turned off this shouldn't have triggered any changes in menu. I have now switched bags and am not using the wrap anymore. I think if this happens one more time it will have to make a trip to Leica for a checkup. Jeff Thanks, Jeff and good job finding that thread for me. Yes, exactly my problem. As I said I played around with the Profile setting and couldn't get it to set correctly so pretty much blew it off. The manual is very vague on this and going by the manual - well, my camera did not react in the manner to which the manual indicated. But, since others have had the problem maybe Leica is aware and will have a solution at some time.
Olsen Posted September 26, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 26, 2015 I have had the same problem. The camera (M-P) has reprogramed itself during battery charging, - but at least at one instance, also when with the battery in the camera and charged. I thought it might be 'something' I do by mistake. I don't use this 'user profile' thing - I think... This was something I experienced when the camera was brand new; back in May 2015. Lately I have been aware that 'this might happen'. Then the camera has behaved OK.
jto555 Posted September 26, 2015 Share #12 Posted September 26, 2015 Hi John, I have had this happen on a few occasions. When I had a focus issue with the camera I sent it back to Germany where they fixed the focus issue and also replaced the motherboard. This fixed the issue. On another point, why a "professional" camera defaults to Jpeg and not RAW amazes me!!! John
Photoskeptic Posted September 28, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted September 28, 2015 I charged the battery last night. No change in settings. The problem must lie elsewhere.
MOZ Posted September 30, 2015 Share #14 Posted September 30, 2015 Hi, Had the trouble once when I borrowed a demo Leica M-P at my store. I set everything alright (DNG, iso, aso) but when I checked 1 hour later I saw everything went off and I was back in Jpeg !!! Then I re-set everything and it worked well. I asked my seller why it did this but he couldn't tell. I've got a brand new M-P now and it behaves normally, nothing wrong yet.
edwardkaraa Posted September 30, 2015 Share #15 Posted September 30, 2015 It could be the internal battery.
jdlaing Posted September 30, 2015 Share #16 Posted September 30, 2015 It could be the internal battery. That's what I thought. As soon as you pull the main battery it would reset to ground zero.
Olsen Posted September 30, 2015 Share #17 Posted September 30, 2015 I think it is the internal battery. It needs to be charged properly. Possibly several times before it keeps up the voltage properly. My camera has behaved properly after having used it extensively for a few weeks.
