Advertisement Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Hi sc_rufctr, Take a look here SL . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jonoslack Posted October 15, 2015 Share #82 Posted October 15, 2015 I must confess to thinking a bit like Jono - a camera like this does actually have a place with the M cameras, using M lenses. Help! Your post is logical and excellent until you get to this bit . . . Please could you clarify how I'm thinking? (it's late and I'm lost )
jonoslack Posted October 15, 2015 Share #83 Posted October 15, 2015 Does this also mean R lenses have risen in value? Not Yet . . . I guess they're waiting for the 20th when they will either plummet or peak!
IkarusJohn Posted October 15, 2015 Share #84 Posted October 15, 2015 Help! Your post is logical and excellent until you get to this bit . . . Please could you clarify how I'm thinking? (it's late and I'm lost ) Far be it for me to tell you what you're thinking ! What I wrote was this: So, while Leica produces its wide, mid-range and long zooms and 35 & 50 Summiluxes for the SL, I must confess to thinking a bit like Jono - a camera like this does actually have a place with the M cameras, using M lenses. The trick will be for Leica to produce some lenses at some reasonably early stage which complement the M line of lenses - a good macro lens, perhaps a TE lens and an APO Summicron 180 ASPH AF. That might get me going ... I didn't quote you at the time, because I was too lazy to find your earlier post But, what I recall you saying somewhere (and perhaps you said something which got me thinking beyond what you were saying - it may have been about the S(007), I've battled with the search function looking for your post) was that you liked the M system, and the idea of adding another system to what you have was unappealing, particularly adding AF lenses to what you have. However, the SL could be a useful addition to the M system (without AF, obviously). Of course, now I can't find your post. If I recall correctly, we were also discussing adding a single AF lens. Maybe at that point a gorgeous woman start telling me how much she loved me and ran her fingers over my rippling abs ... and I woke up.
gpwhite Posted October 16, 2015 Share #85 Posted October 16, 2015 I remember a post somewhere by Jono suggesting that he liked his current, substantial bag of Leica gear and was not excited about AF. It may be over on the new M next year thread, not sure. But I did not spend much time thinking about what Jono may have been thinking because he has insight about the Leica product pipeline that is deep below the forum's public surface... so how could I know what he is thinking when he knows more than I do? IMHO, a FF SL with excellent EVF does have a very valuable place with Summilux-M lenses that are unpredictable in focus with RF. Hmm, sounds like a BMW specification doesn't it-- FF SL EVF M RF ? I have optimistically ordered an M to T adapter, figuring that when the SL is announced, Leica will quickly run out of adapter stock as it always seems to do. My R to M adapter is already all dusted off, so, much like a made-to-order burger, I can have an R to M to T chain for the 15mm Super-Elmarit. I am also betting that R lenses will begin an ascent, again, when the markets open October 21 .
IkarusJohn Posted October 16, 2015 Share #86 Posted October 16, 2015 The Vario-Elmarit R 28-90 is still selling for silly prices on E-Bay. I just had a quick look at Photo & Video, and they have some very nice M lenses at good prices. The rumour mill seems to have decided that the SL will be very expensive at $10,000 for the camera and "kit" 24-90 zoom (has Leica ever made a kit lens). Just to get this into proportion, the M-P is currently selling on B&H for $7,000 so if the SL costs more than the M-P, the zoom is pretty cheap ... If I had to guess body will be cheaper than the M for sure. Lenses more expensive for zooms.
ramarren Posted October 19, 2015 Share #88 Posted October 19, 2015 I look forward to seeing what Leica announces. Quite happy with my Ms, both film and digital, with my Nikon and Leicaflex SLRs, and with my Olympus E-M1. They all work brilliantly and serve my needs well. Whether I buy something new depends on what it is and what advantage it might pose to my photography. I'm never in a rush to buy things. G
Likaleica Posted October 27, 2015 Author Share #89 Posted October 27, 2015 Well, by now we all know what the SL is and is not. Thanks for everyone's input. This probably closes this SL discussion on the S forum.
