I had to wade through the manual at 4 am, but it did solve the problem: Indeed: Func 1 is set to Aperture. Turns out you have to hold down Func 1 and **then** turn the thumb wheel. Thanks so much. It's been a very long day of challenges to get started on my trip and this issue threw me off. I suppose this could be a case of RTFM, but if you knew the kind of day I've had, there was simply no time or the presence of mind to wade through the manual. Thanks again to everyone for their notes and suggestions.
