M9reno Posted September 23, 2015 Share #22 Â Posted September 23, 2015 On the brighter side, maybe the fall fixed the annoying little clicks you hear when you move this lens. Â Comminserations otherwise.

ShivaYash Posted September 23, 2015 Author Share #25 Â Posted September 23, 2015 The focus tap is very tough 'plastic' so this lens got a pretty hard blow when hitting the bog floor... Â Imagine holding the lens loosely in the palm of your hand and giving it a blow with a hammer as hard as it takes to deform the focus tap like that, afterwards rethink if noting inside has been damaged,,, you bet things have happened inside, decentering, focus ring deformed,,, Indeed. I suspected it was a hard plastic of some sort. The main reason for repair is to have the whole thing checked over.
jmahto Posted September 23, 2015 Share #26 Â Posted September 23, 2015 What kind of lens pouch it was in? I keep my lenses in neoprene pouch (Zing ones) and I would hope that the neoprene thickness will provide some cushion in accidental fall.
sdk Posted September 23, 2015 Share #27  Posted September 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Almost, but as a proud USA fag, I prefer to say I have a life, not a lifestyle, and it's not that alternative, though it is the only alternative I would want.   If it makes Shiva Yash feel any better, I dropped a thin bag with my Zeiss 35mm/1.4 Distagon in it, and it got the hood bent. Lens is OK. Later the same lens was dropped again, with my M-P, from my knee while sitting, and I cracked a Zeiss 49mmm polarizer. Lens and camera seem OK, fortunately. I must be more careful.  In the UK = CigaretteIn the USA = Alternative Lifestyle (lgbt)'( )'
TRIago Posted September 24, 2015 Share #28 Â Posted September 24, 2015 "Oh look, he calls the lens FAG instead of FLE." Done, got what you wanted. Â Bullshit aside, I feel sorry for you regarding the lens. Just send it in so Leica can check.
Herr Barnack Posted September 25, 2015 Share #29  Posted September 25, 2015 What kind of lens pouch it was in? I keep my lenses in neoprene pouch (Zing ones) and I would hope that the neoprene thickness will provide some cushion in accidental fall. I think of lens pouches as providing protection against scratches and dents when lenses are in a bag and would be banging together otherwise. Drop a lens that is in a pouch and all bets are off.  I have had mishaps over the years that have made me realize that the amount of damage that a drop will cause is dependent on a number of factors such as distance, impact surface, trajectory, the type and thickness of padding involved, etc. I have had mishaps that I thought would result in major damage and there was no damage and mishaps that I thought would be of no consequence that resulted in major damage that cost hundreds of dollars to repair.  Moral of the story - it's a crap-shoot with the outcome being determined by the laws of physics. The only way to win the game is to not play to begin with.
