I think you are looking for an increase in detail in the bird's black head. I use Lightroom, and tried the "Blacks" slider, but it tended to wash out the rest of the photo. I tried another approach. Left the Blacks as is, increased exposure by .25, Highlights from 0 to -100 to back off the white clipping, and shadows from 70 to 100. Is this result close to what you had in mind?
