dbdecker Posted September 11, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted September 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â Does anyone have any advice on an ND filter for a current 21mm SE lens? 46mm. Â Variable - is not required - I have some work in the middle of the day coming up during spring / summer. Â I understand the Heliopan variable has a Vignette that is beyond acceptable. MarkP Posted September 11, 2015 Share #3 Â Posted September 11, 2015 I use B+W 3-10x ND filters which fit under the hood without problems.
DTM Posted September 12, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted September 12, 2015 I am using a B&W 0.9, +3 stop ND filter in the middle of the day. Has worked well for me on the APO 50 and Elmarit 28. Have seen no problems using it with either lens.

MarkP Posted September 12, 2015 Share #7  Posted September 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark P , sounds promising. Any model numbers available by chance? Don't have model numbers as such on the filters but the text on the filter rings read:  F-PRO   B+W  46  103  ND 0.9  -  3BL 8x F-PRO   B+W  46  106  ND 1.8  -  6BL 64x F-PRO   B+W  46  110  ND 3.0  -  6BL 1000x  You would be aware of the risk from light leaks with M cameras and very long daylight exposures, ssp. with 10x ND filters.  Discussed extensively in these threads below. The light leaks between the lens flange and camera mount at about 2 o'clock under the VF window but does NOT leak through the VF.  You may need a black hair scrunchie around the lens flange/camera mount to prevent this, particularly if the sun is shining on that part of the camera.  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/212964-monochrom-long-exposure-issue/?p=2422899 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/218866-risked-life-and-limb-to-get-this-shot-and-the-7000-piece-of-crap-let-me-down-again/  ...unfortunately many example photos were lost when Forum was recently upgraded recently
John Z. Goriup Posted September 12, 2015 Share #8  Posted September 12, 2015 I like the LEE Seven5 system best.  The filters are smaller at 75 x 90 millimeters than the traditional 100mm wide filters designed for the larger auto-focus lenses used on most DSLRs, it's high quality, and with the appropriate  adapters one LEE filter holder can be used on just about any M lens with little fear of vignetting. They also have ND filters available which further extend the uisefulness of the Lee system, although it would help if you'rer shooting with a 240 since live view / EVF would permit viewing the actual image prior to taking the shot.  Their web site tells you pretty much all you need to know.  JZG

Both plane and multicoated. They come in a small plastic box so it is easy to store in your bag when you don't need it.

dbdecker Posted September 16, 2015 Author Share #13  Posted September 16, 2015 OK.  I got the Lee Serven5 (only last night did I get to pick it up)  Some test shots at home using various parts of the "deluxe" kit I find that there is no vignetting on the 21mm Super-El.  Even with the polarizer on it.  It does block the Rangefinder at various points, but I expected that.  I didn't buy this to handhold...  I only have the 21 for landscape tripod work  So thank you, this fit the bill, and now I can mess around with 35 and 75 shots for some creative fun.
