R Zoom lenses for the M

I may have posted my question on the wrong thread and will now try here.  I need something like a MATE on my M 240, but the range of that M-lens too limited.  The R 28-90 F2.8-4.5 ASPH could be my solution.  What is the best way to adapt it?  Are there other good R zooms of the short to long type?  Which one do you think is best on the M 240?  Is focusing problematic at all with the 28-90, especially at 90mm?  Is the size of the 28-90 lens problematic?

I'd appreciate any information you can give me.  Thanks.  Tom

It is a heavy unbalanced lens (albeit relatively compact) compared to M primes and the MATE, but more than excellent. If you insist on using an SLR zoom on the M I would advise you to consider the 35-70 4.0. Lighter and not far behind in quality  - and a lot cheaper.  Long R zooms are another matter. They are superb, but heavy.

The 80-200 4.0 R and 105-280 are superb performers, and work well on the M. I use them all the time.

Just my opinion but if I were looking for a zoom in that range for my M240 I would expand my search to include other brands besides Leica R.  Don't get me wrong, the 35-70/4 and 28-90 are awesome lenses.  But the former (I owned one) lacks reach at both ends, and given it's substantial size on an M I'd just as soon go with a 50 and "foot zoom".  The latter has more useful reach, but is quite big and heavy on a small body (I used one on an R6).

+1.   I had the 35-70 but it was easier to use a 50mm and my feet with the 35-70 range.   I didn't try the 28-90 after I looked at the specs, especially weight, and the prices were very high.  If that is not daunting, the R lenses with proper adapter do work on the M very well, though focusing precisely requires some practice with the EVF and the use of the magnification feature.
