adan Posted September 4, 2015 Share #25 Posted September 4, 2015 I can't quite squeeze down to 3 lenses in the M system. When I work "intimately" (within 2.5 meters/8 feet) my core setup is about like pgk's - 21/35/75. (I substitute an Elmarit 21 and Summicrons, for reasons of (21) speed and digital compatability, (35) close-focus range, and (75) weight and size). But at longer distances, I need to add a 135 (f/4). Both for the reach, and because I like the graphics of the flat, compressed 135 "perspective" in some pictures.

Mr_Jones Posted September 5, 2015 Share #28 Posted September 5, 2015 For travel, which is the only time I think about a classic set. 28 2.8 50 1.4 ASPH 90 4 macro sometimes I substitute the 40 2 for the 50 1.4, if I need a lightweight kit.

uhoh7 Posted September 11, 2015 Share #32 Posted September 11, 2015 I Like the OP's lens choices, except I'd prefer the v1 35/2 Shaken, not stirred. But for travel, the 75 Lux is ridiculous, so I would swap it for something......Canon LTM 85/1.
pgk Posted September 11, 2015 Author Share #33 Posted September 11, 2015 But for travel, the 75 Lux is ridiculous, so I would swap it for something......Canon LTM 85/1.8 Actually, for travel I'd swap it with the thin T-E - I have a very cheap, rather battered and tatty copy (which is IMO the ideal state for a travel lens provided it works well, which it does). So I do have a 'classic travel lens set' too .
IkarusJohn Posted September 11, 2015 Share #34 Posted September 11, 2015 ... But for travel, the 75 Lux is ridiculous, so I would swap it for something......Canon LTM 85/1.8 Well, if size and weight are an issue, I take my phone. Then again, if I want better IQ, I'll take the best lenses that I know I will use. Where M lenses are concerned, size and weight are completely irrelevant. I traveled through SE Asia, China & Tibet, Europe, across the Sahara to West Africa and through the States with a backpack, FM2, 180/2.8 tele, wide and mid-zoom. No Leica lens combination is as heavy as that lot. Try trekking in Nepal with a Hasselblad. Either you're taking pictures or not. If you're taking your M, take the lenses you want and will use. If you're bothered about size and weight, why do you have the lenses? Take your phone.

If you're bothered about size and weight, why do you have the lenses? Take your phone. I wonder if we will be discussing 'classic phones' in the future . I think not. I still use my phone to call people not to take photos. For me there is as much enjoyment in taking a picture on a phone as waiting in a queue. Its something that sometimes has to be done sometimes but.....

Its something that sometimes has to be done sometimes but..... I agree entirely. I carry an M camera because I like taking photos, and I like the haptics. I'll carry any Leica M lens. They're compact and light. The Noctilux, 75 Summilux, 90 Summicron or21 Summilux, they are amazing. Im not carrying lenses I won't use, but I'm not leaving a lens behind because it's heavy. jankap Posted September 11, 2015 Share #38 Posted September 11, 2015 For me - for instance in France last week - VC 12, Lux 35 and Elmar 50. On a crop camera (as 18, 52, 75) and a IIIf (as 12, 50). The Lux and the IIIf do not love each other. Jan
