george_b Posted May 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is the real effect to my images if I set my M8 to "Lens Detection On+UV/IR" when I use a non-coded lens? It is easy to forget to change the settings when out taking photographs. I'm really talking about lenses in the 25 - 90mm ranges rather than wider, My 35, 50 & 90mm date from the mid '70s and think they are wonderful plus they have a sentimantal attachment. Advertisement Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Hi george_b, Take a look here Lens coding - again. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted May 24, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2007 There should be no effect if you set lens encoding ON or ON+UV/IR and use a non-coded lens. The camera reads its "non-code" as 000000 and translates this into "do nothing." So if you use a mix of coded and non-coded lenses, you should leave the lens recognition on for lenses that can benefit. scott
stunsworth Posted May 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 24, 2007 Scott, I'm finding that isn't the case. I have a non-coded Voigtlander 90mm that I use with the lens detection set to on. If I look at the Exif data it sometimes shows as a 28mm, sometimes at a 24mm, sometimes with no focal length at all.
Hans Roggen Posted May 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 24, 2007 That's probably because of light hitting the sensor because the adapter ring has a cutout where the coding sensor is. Hans
stunsworth Posted May 24, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 24, 2007 Hans, that was my assumption too.
