Has the mailbox function changed for premium members ?

Hi Everyone

 

Something unusual seems to have happened to my mailbox over the last couple of days. 

 

I benefit from the larger email allowance and functionality available to premium members.

 

Sometime during the last 48 hours my mailbox has begun to send messages to say that it is full  and that I have used up my allowance of 200 messages.

 

As I cleared the mailbox down substantially before the forum migration I was surprised to see that the mailbox had filled up, as I didn't think I'd utilised it that heavily.

 

I've noted that mails from 2007  and similar early times appear to be populating the box.

 

I looked to see about clearing the mailbox.

 

Previously if you wanted to clear the mailbox it was possible to download the content either in a CSV, HTML or similar format so that you could preserve a record of important correspondence and then  subsequently go on to delete the files from the mailbox.

 

 On looking at the current functionality it  no longer appears possible to download the message files, it only seems to be possible to delete them. 

 

I think I may not be the only person having this problem and wondered if some fault or change in capacity of the boxes has happened in the last 48 hours.

 

If someone could let me know it would be great-please excuse me putting this on the main forum but obviously I can't PM anybody at the moment until the matter is sorted out

My mail box has acted in the same way.  Casually monitoring it until a couple of days ago it was roughly half full and then I suddenly got the mailbox full message and had to delete to be able to send PM's.

I think I have answered the first part of your question here: Why does the forum say I have too many private messages?

 

As to exporting your messages: I don't think there is a way to export them to your disk drive. However, you now can "archive" your "conversations". 

 

Translation:

A "conversation" is a thread of PMs, i.e. a set of messages along with the replies and the replies to those and so on.

To "archive" means that the forum can send you a conversation to your mail address. It's the one you entered in your member profile.

 

I have solved that by using a free Gmail account for use with the forum and nothing else. I then keep those conversations I want to keep in that Google mail box were all the nice functions are at your disposal for handling largish number of messages.

 I'll look into how to export conversations though as yet I've not located the command that permits this

 

 I understand your point about mailbox is filling up on migration but what I am describing has happened to a previously functioning mailbox in the last 48 hours.  The thing I find unusual is that this has just happened when I've been using the mailbox normally for months previously so that appears to have been a change in capacity  over the last 48 hours 

 

 I've deleted 52 mails from the email box and capacity is still showing at 248  which would indicate that  either it  was functioning with a more emails previously,  all that the box has filled up for some reason very recently.

To archive a conversation: open the conversation you want to archive and scroll to the end of the last message. You find several controls, one of them not very obvious:
