Video hiccups

Yes, I can simply discount memory issues. Excuse me while I enter nerd mode... :)

A 1080p frame is 1920*1088 pixels. The decoder usually needs to store 2 or 3 frames (depending on compression mode) in YUV 4:2:0 format which in the worst case is about 10 MB of memory footprint.

10 MB (MegaBytes) of memory are not a problem even for the crappiest smartphone.

Hope this explains why the only problem is the speed, not the amount of memory.

It is actually MPEG4 AVC, also known as H.264. A much better codec than the ancient MPEG2, which in turn is a much better codec than the prehistoric MJPEG used on the M240.

In any case, this smells like a RTFM problem: if you take stills while capturing video, then the described "freeze" may happen.

If the system is out of memory to provide the app, then it is a memory issue regardless of what the required buffer size and count maybe. Granted that this may not be the case for the most cases  it may still be possible especially if the HDD is full (needed by the virtual memory system) and the system has way too many CPU and memory intensive processes running.

All I'm saying is you cannot discount any resource that is required for proper performance. It needs to be considered regardless of how improbable it may be  especially if insufficient info was given at first.

Nevertheless, as the OP said his system is powerful so his issue is something else.

So basically shooting pics while in movie mode is useless! And will ruin your clip.

Exactly.

Leica Q Instruction Manual, page 200:

Taking pictures while recording video

With the Leica Q you can briefly interrupt ongoing video recording

in order to take one or more photos. Photographs are taken using

the settings in the corresponding menu options and exactly as

described in the corresponding sections.

Setting the function

1. Select Video Settings in the menu, and

2. then Photos during video recording, ON or OFF in the menu

option

Not worthless, but yes it will interrupt the recording. Im not aware of any camera that works differently. Think about what you are asking the camera to do.

Well, he failed to mention he was taking photos at the same time as recording video.
