Arte di Mano and Luigi Q half cases. Opinions appreciated.

Although I have enjoyed photography for many decades, I have never used a half case with Leica's or any other cameras that I have owned.

Both Arte di Mano and Luigi are currently making impressive looking half cases for the Leica Q, that afford the camera protection. Does anyone have experience using these half cases?  Are they worhtwhile accessory?  No doubt they are aesthetically appealing, but does it make sense?  Opinions appreciated. Thank you.

For me no they don't as they just add to the mass of the camera. I suppose they may offer some protection if the camera was dropped on it's base. I think the only really worthwhile accessory is the Leica grip which totally transforms the handling of the camera

For me, they don't.  Every bit of bulk you add to the camera multiplies.  You need a larger bag and so on.  Even the hand grip, which I had and tried just adds too much bulk and makes the process of changing batteries or SD cards more of a pain.  A good neck or wrist strap, or both add minimal weight and privde security against drops that no 1/2 case can deliver.

These are all good comments with which I agree. We all are tempted to "tart" things up with extra stuff. One of the beautys of this camera is it is smaller and lighter, harkening back to the original Leica concept. I picked up a friend's Nikon 800 with f2.8 28-70 and was appalled. Sure the IQ is great, but.... And sure enough, this often was not something he regularly carried.

All that being said - what do you guys think about the strap?  i just got my Q (thank you, Camera West!) and the strap seems fine to me. It is not adjustable but the length seems reasonable at first glance. Does anyone have any strong feelings about some other way (a different strap)  to carry around your neck?

Thank you. I asked a question regarding a strap for the Q (on this forum), approximately a week ago, and received diverse responses. It may be helpful to you. Good luck.

Agreed. The included strap is short and the camera doesn't hang well. I like the low slung look.

The arte Di Mano are beautiful. I have a rally Volpe on my m240. Makes you wanna bring it everywhere. I intend to repeat it on the Q

I love the rally Volpe strap!!  I have the standard size which for most may be too short.  Be sure before you order to measure what length you are comfortable with.
