When I use AF and lock onto something that is at least 20 meters away my lens looks like it is in focus but the marking on the lens doesn't....... See attached

Not worried I love my S gear. Just useful when using a 10 stop ND filter to just adjust the focus manually without having to remove the filter

Neil, I think the way SLR lens is design is that they have tolerance. they can focus way pass their infinity marking. I found this out when using Canon and Contax 645 lens on my Alpa gear with digital back. Focus at object more than 3km away on a 80mm lens, I found that I can focus pass infinity and back. I think it is designed like so so that they have tolerate for each offset of sensor to lens focus distance...

It is there to accommodate thermal expansion ;)
