Nick De Marco Posted May 23, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't like using flash at all. But I am just off on vacation with a few cameras:o I have a huge flash with my canon 5D but I don't want to take the monster. So today, I picked up a cheap little automatic flash to put on top of my M6 or Minolta CLE in case I have a rare occasion I want to use it. My M6 is not a TTL, so I guess I just put the camera on f5.6 and 1/60, but I'm not sure. the CLE does have TTL so not sure if it would be any different. The flash is a little Metz 20 C-2. Anyone expereinced with this stuff?
Advertisement Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Hi Nick De Marco, Take a look here Using flash on a Leica M or Minolta CLE. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ejd Posted May 23, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2007 I doubt if the CLE and your Metz flash have the contacts and electronics between them to enable the TTL flash control to work. I expect you'll have to use the CLE with the flash in auto mode (with the flash unit controlling the light output) or manual, just like on the M6. I think - not totally sure - that to use the camera's ttl control you may need some Minolta flash unit that the CLE was made to be used with. You might take a look at this Leica Minolta* CLE which has a lot on flashes that work with the ttl on the CLE -- some minolta, metz (though not yours, I think) and Sunpac flashes. I'm impressed with all this camera-buying you seem to be doing! Makes me feel a lot less peculiar about my own indulgences. Rgds, John
cwf Posted May 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2007 The flash sync, at least on my mid-80s M6, is 1/45. It has its own click stop (marked with a flash) between 1/30 and 1/60 on the shutter speed wheel.
dkCambridgeshire Posted May 28, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2007 I don't like using flash at all. Anyone expereinced with this stuff? Yes ... put the lens on f5.6 but also put the flash on the auto f5.6 setting and the shutter speed to the flash synch. speed or slower ... and at f5.6 with 200 ISO film the flash will automatically cover distance up to 7 meters ... or 3.5 meters at 100 ISO. But will not work in TTL OTF mode on the CLE ... to use the CLE with TTL flash metering requires a flashgun compatible with the SCA331 flash adaptor ... don't think the Metz 20 C-2 takes any SCA adaptors. If using the flash in tilt mode allow half the above distances If using as a fill in flash use some diffusers over the flash and use in tilt mode ... so that ambient light, and not the flash, is not the main source of illumination. But beware of over-exposure when using fill in flash at the 1/50th M6 flash synch shutter speed ... make sure the lens aperture suits the ambient light at this speed.
