Leica M2 rewind knob issues/replacement

Recommended Posts

The rewind knob on my Leica M2 has sort of broken, in that the groove that is supposed to be inside an inward groove is so worn that it doesn't want to stick in it and it makes rewinding film quite difficult (I can sort of slowly do it, but it can't get the film out of the spool). Basically, I need a new one.

Where can I find a replacement for it? The one I found is in USA, but unfortunately the seller is away and won't be back until the end of august, and having to deal with this issue for a month and a half to two months would be quite problematic. Is there a store that has replacement parts like that within the EU? Or anything along those lines.

In the U.S., Don Goldberg (DAG Camera Parts) has a M2/3 rewind assembly listed on the camera parts page.  There must be a repair shop somewhere in the EU offering parts.  I'm sure you'll have more answers soon from members in Europe who have a favorite source.  Good luck and hopefully you will locate a part shortly and welcome to the forum.

So I take it noone knows of a store in the EU then... oh well.

It appears I will end up ordering that one (I only need the knob, but it's always nice to have spares, in case something else within that mechanism breaks or something along those lines), because thankfully he ships outside the US as well. It will take a fair amount of time, but not nearly as much as the alternative.

Thanks, mate, you are truly a lifesaver.
