Mael Posted May 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello ! I'm new in this forum. I'm a camera repair, and I have some Screw Mount Leica to check for a collector. I noticed a strange Summar (Nr 313824) with engravings that I never saw before : A 847 L and then it seems there was other things engraved, but they were removed. Anybody has an idea of where does this lens come from ? Military market ? Nber for administration or company ? Thanks.

luigi bertolotti Posted May 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2007 I suggest to route your question to Lager or Bawendi, or anyway to some "Leica Historica" people, or to the Leica Museum at Solms; the first thing to determine is if it'is a Leitz factory engraving (and someone, looking at the "fonts" can establish it, I think), that could mean a batch of lenses for some specific customer (Mil/Gov) or for company insiders, or on the contrary a customer-made engraving, that could mean lot of things : to say, the principal hospital of my town used to have some M body for surgery documentation: they were engraved with proper inventory codes (maybe the lens too, but I have not evidence)
Guest flatfour Posted May 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 24, 2007 I had a lens, also a Summar (1935) which was engraved with the name of a medical research laboratory and a number, presumably an asset number. I sold it with it on so if anybody on this forum still has it they could show a picture..
