Not really.   The lenses are still the same price, too expensive, big, and  heavy.

I would have been content with R digital.  Kept the 21, 28 & 35 shift, 60, 100 APO but they are now in Nikon mounts.  How sad.

Amazing prices for the Leica S and S-E. Couldn't believe those prices as compared to the Leica S2  :(. The 120/2.5 APO is heavy and don't use it much. However, the 35/2.5 is lighter and take it along sometimes.

I still own some R lenses but I didn't convert to Nikon mounts. I sold my 280/4 APO recently since I wasn't using it.

Having been one of those folks who paid > $20K for an S2 (nearly 4 years ago), I just purchased an S-E at the great prices they're current available for (for the benefit of the faster focus and modestly higher ISO performance). Like the M, the investment is in the lenses and the payback is in the images.  Bodies depreciate quickly.

I still have a couple R lenses, using the with adapters on the M. Truly, the S is easier to handle than the DMR, but of course you are correct that the S lenses are comparatively large and heavy to those of the R system, but still it's an easy camera to walk-about with using the 35, 70, or 100.

Regards,

Dean

Hi Dean, That's a great deal on the S-E. Yes, the lenses depreciate less than the body.

I never had a DMR but I have a R8 and few Leicaflexes (love them  :D). Somehow I don't like using the longer R lenses on the Leica M especially 180/2.8 APO and 280/4 APO but shorter lenses like the 100/2.8 APO, 80/1.8, etc. are ok for me. I use the R lenses mostly on the A7r.

Yes, it's an easy camera to walk around.

Best regards, AB

The S2 continues to be my favorite camera but the S  and S-E have enough improvements that resistance was futile, ordered yesterday and will test/purchase  the 180mm.   Occasionally I wish I had more megapixels otherwise when viewing images in LR the quality is phenomenal.   If it wasn't for the image quality, excellent user interface, great handling and feel, superb viewfinder, ease of use, superb AF/MF, lens quality: build, optics, mechanics and other attributes I would consider changing systems :-)

I am new to the S system and love it.............I hear a lot of people complaining about size and weight but when you see the IQ difference all that stuff just goes away :)

I love the S2. I shoot with Leicaflexes and when I travel I take my Nikon D3S and D800E so size is not a problem with me. When I go for my walks, I carry my M or Sony A7r or RX100.

The price drop has disappeared and have gone back up.  There was no indication of limited time or limited numbers other than the August 31 extension.

Neil, only after a long day or outing does my arm and hand complain, mostly it's a pleasure to hold, I would rate it as the best designed ergonomic body.  If I could redesign the lenses I would want them slightly thinner as my grasp on them is tenuous at times.

I don't like to make a camera larger or heavier, generally, but I've found that the S grip makes it much easier to handle without accidentally pressing buttons. I don't put a battery in the grip, and that keeps the weight down. Actually I don't even have a second battery, and haven't yet felt the need!
