jaapv Posted July 21, 2015 Share #21 Posted July 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, 45x30mm isn't too shabby for the Leica S. Compare that to your Rollei and your M9 and report back. Of course color and b/w are two different beasts…. Jeff But do try out an S camera with lens for while - I did, and although the files are gorgeous, the weight and bulk of the system made it a nono for me -and the problematic use of (third party) long lenses, for sheer size and weight. Advertisement Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Hi jaapv, Take a look here What am I missing by converting M9 files to B&W vs Monochrom. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jeff S Posted July 21, 2015 Share #22 Posted July 21, 2015 But do try out an S camera with lens for while - I did, and although the files are gorgeous, the weight and bulk of the system made it a nono for me -and the problematic use of (third party) long lenses, for sheer size and weight. The recent discounts prompted me to visit a Leica Store and briefly handle one again (as I did a couple of years ago). I agree on the size and weight…the S would never substitute for an M for me. Rather, if at all, it would serve as a landscape camera, often with tripod and all that….a different system altogether. But for that purpose, LV would be useful, and I'm not about to throw those big (and fast depreciating) bucks at a new S. In fact, with a year's delay, I'm wondering what to make of the long rumored next S. That said, the price breaks on the 006 are somewhat enticing. And the size, relative to medium format systems, is actually pretty nice, although smaller lenses would likely attract more buyers IMO, provided the results were still Leica-quality. At my typical print sizes, though, the M results aren't too shabby. Not sure I want to seriously explore the S results. Jeff
Jeff S Posted July 21, 2015 Share #23 Posted July 21, 2015 Not lately…you can now buy a new S-E plus a 70mm S lens (56 equivalent) for LESS money than a M246 plus a 50 Summilux…$10,295 vs $10,965…. http://www.reddotforum.com/content/2015/07/new-leica-s-typ-006-s-e-typ-006-and-70mm-cs-lens-promotional-bundle-announced/ Jeff Looks like the store pulled back on the ad….now pricing the set at $12,995, it appears. I think maybe Leica got wise and wasn't too happy. Still a good deal relative to initial retail, but not quite the steal it was for a brief moment. Wonder if anyone got the benefit.
