Has anyone experience with Noctilux f/1.0 and internal processed JPGs from the M9?

 

Some photographers say that pictures made with the nocti f1 and the internal process jpgs of the m9 would have look that has character of analog film, especially in black and white...

When wide-open, the low contrast of this lens, its aberrations, and the apparently low-resolution, are what reminds me a lot of analog film (shot with old lenses).

 

I never shoot JPEG though.

It may be that the M9 firmware's raw developer profile is tuned to accentuate the film-look. But for sure it cannot be the JPEG compression itself (which can only introduce "very digital" artifacts), although the M9 JPEG engine is horrible and may smooth detail out (something you can and should do during RAW postprocessing).

In-camera developer profiles can be replicated in any raw developer software with a little patience: just shoot RAW+JPEG, and then tune your profile until the RAW looks like (or better) than the "filmic look" JPEG.
