D-LUX 109 sensor failure?

Just received as a gift a new D-Lux 109. My first Leica in 30 years, since I sold my M4's for a Linhof Technikardan 4x5. Anyway, took it out for some test shots; the first five looked fine, then the screen went white with vertical colored lines and no image at all. Playback still works fine; I can see the test shots I took, all the camera menus appear on the screen when accessed, but cannot take a picture of anything but the white screen with lines. Anyone know what this could be and if it's solvable? I've attached a sample of the camera's image below.

Thanks in advance.

As a followup to my post, Leica replaced the camera with another. Ostensibly a new camera, though it came without the original packaging from Leica USA. Just the camera, and a new warranty number, with the page cut out of the booklet. Does this sound like normal Leica replacement policy?

From a service perspective, yes. There's a lot of reassurance when a camera, with so much going on electronically, comes with a three year warranty. I haven't done an exhaustive comparison with the Lumix version, but the fact that the jpegs from the Leica are purported to be better, along with the free Lightroom download, which I needed, made the choice a no-brainer for me. Plus, I started my photography career in 1972 with a purchase of a Leica M3, right after I met Robert Frank. I've got a bit of nostalgia for the brand.
