viramati Posted June 26, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering if anyone who has the camera and the SF58 can see if it works with HSS. Can't see any mention of it in the manual I downloaded from the leica site.
Advertisement Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Hi viramati, Take a look here HSS and SF58. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

viramati Posted September 18, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted September 18, 2015 Well I tried it out and in TTL the flash seems to sync up to 1/2000 sec which is nice. If you have the grip though the flash is large the camera is surprisingly easy to handle. If you need tilt/swivel etc it is the only flash to have
dancook Posted September 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2015 Thanks, any options for off-camera? Keeping TTL and HSS?
viramati Posted September 18, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted September 18, 2015 Yes you can use the same nikon lead (Nikon SC-28) that people use with this flash for the S, M and M9
johnloumiles Posted September 19, 2015 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1/2000 is amazing. I'm wondering how that works since they state 1/500 is the max. Maybe because they can't guarantee you'll get a perfect exposure with anything higher. Well I tried it out and in TTL the flash seems to sync up to 1/2000 sec which is nice. Maybe because they can't guarantee you'll get a perfect exposure with anything higher. Well it certainly fires and exposure seems to be consistent and correct. The HSS symbol doesn't light on the SF58 ( which if I remember rightly it did on the M) so I presume this sync speed is down to the leaf shutter
dancook Posted September 19, 2015 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2015 I find very few retailers for the SF58, and i find reports of it being superseded.
viramati Posted September 19, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted September 19, 2015 I find very few retailers for the SF58, and i find reports of it being superseded. Not superseded just that it was made by Metz who are no longer producing. So I believe that currently there are no new flashes available for leica unless you can find someone who has one still in stock so if you find one especially used I would snap it up. I saw on on ebay from the US
johnloumiles Posted September 19, 2015 Share #11 Posted September 19, 2015 Yeah the only flash Leica is currently producing for all their cameras is the SF26. Not nearly as versatile or powerful as the SF58, but it is smaller. I bought my SF58 almost new on EBay for about $400. They're on there to be had but they hold their price due to the limited availability. http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Sf58&isNewKw=1&mfs=GOCLK&acimp=0&_trksid=undefined.TR1.TRC0.Xsf58&sqp=sf58 Not superseded just that it was made by Metz who are no longer producing. viramati Posted September 19, 2015 Author Share #12 Posted September 19, 2015 Actually I don't think even the SF26 is available unless already in stock
sturkel Posted September 19, 2015 Share #13 Posted September 19, 2015 Yes you can use the same nikon lead (Nikon SC-28) that people use with this flash for the S, M and M9 So I am wondering if you can use the Nikon lead, would this mean a radio for Nikon cameras would work with the Q as well ? viramati Posted September 19, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted September 19, 2015 Now that would be interesting though I should imagine most of the systems would be made to work with Nikon flashes if you need TTL
johnloumiles Posted September 20, 2015 Share #15 Posted September 20, 2015 I've had issues with TTL using Nikon leads but that is just my experience. johnloumiles Posted September 20, 2015 Share #16 Posted September 20, 2015 You might be thinking of the SF24? The SF26 was recently released in conjunction with the T but works with every Leica camera. http://en.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-T/Technical-Equipment/SF-26-flash Actually I don't think even the SF26 is available unless already in stock

Last time I asked leica Mayfair in London didn't have any. I'm not sure it was made by Metz
johnloumiles Posted September 23, 2015 Share #18 Posted September 23, 2015 Pretty sure the SF26 is Leica's own proprietary flash and is not just a rebaged version of something else. You can find them at B&H here in the U.S. But it seems like the supply ran low in line with the Q's popularity. Now that summer holiday is over I'm sure they will restock soon.
