Daniel Beacock Posted June 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm in the process of scanning old family negatives and prints that I eventually want to share with family and friends. I'm doing this through VueScan, importing, editing and keyword tagging in Lightroom, but I'm stuck for a suitable sharing option. Ideally I want something that will maintain the ability to search on keywords, enable a continuous link to invitees so that they can see as the archive grows, and provide a pleasant and easy to navigate user interface. I've tried Dropbox, which in principle works ok, but doesn't, as far as I am aware, give the keyword searching option. (Also I'm having some problems with Lightroom exporting a thumbnail on portable devices with this method for some strange reason, but I'm sure I will be able to sort that). Does anyone know of any other option that would satisfy? I've tried Googling a solution as well, but am surprised I can't find anything that will fit the bill. Picasa was something I used many moons ago, but it looks like users now have to have a google account to use, which really annoys me! Also coming back to keywords, Lightroom CC now has face recognition, which is very useful in tagging pictures, but when the file is exported from Lightroom it seems to maintain all other tags except those that have been tagged using face recognition! Am I missing some tick box to get it to include those face tags? Or do I have to tag everything twice!! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! pop Posted June 24, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2015 I use smugmug which seems to support keywords. I can't tell you how useful that support is as i haven't used any keywords so far. You can set smugmug to show a "gallery" or "folder" to everyone, to everyone who has a link or to people identified by name (by mail address, I think, rather). I have used the first and the second variant but not the third one. People at Smugmug are very helpful and supportive. They received a request to buy one of my photographs. I have not enabled the function, and they forwarded the request to me by mail, and within a very short time, too.
Broadside Posted June 24, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 24, 2015 If you use Lightroom to apply keywords and also use the Flickr plugin for Lightroom to upload to Flickr, it transfers your keywords automatically as tags, which can easily be searched for on Flickr
Daniel Beacock Posted June 24, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted June 24, 2015 Ah! I hadn't thought of Flickr and I've got an account already so I shall have a look. I've heard of Smugmug but admit I am unfamiliar with it. Two very useful directions to look in, thank you both!
Jeff S Posted June 24, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 24, 2015 Zenfolio is another popular site for sharing. And there's a LR plug-in available. Jeff

Cuthbert Posted July 1, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 1, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use tinypic but in the last months it's becoming trashy and full of adverts...perhaps I should change.
pico Posted July 1, 2015 Share #8 Posted July 1, 2015 I am blessed by having an inexpensive server -- which I quit using for public HTTP*. Sometimes. It is good to have been a pioneer lost in a system.
