Nick De Marco Posted June 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone bought one, or tried one yet? I just wondered if it's good, looks and feels good etc. I kind of prefer wrist steps to neck straps for various reasons, but also like to have both hands free when walking around. Thus solution is either a shoulder bag, which I usually always carry anyway, or the holster (or both, keeping another camera in the bag). iI the holster is very comfortable and quick it might be better than closing it in a bag. I dunno.... Thanks Nick
Advertisement Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Hi Nick De Marco, Take a look here The Q Holster - anyone tried one?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
alee Posted June 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 22, 2015 I was able to try one at the Leica store - I thought it was fantastic. Leica has done other holsters before... for the T and the M9. Should not be too hard to find those in the store to try on.
Peter H Posted June 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 22, 2015 Nick, I enjoy your photography. Please don't spoil it by wearing a holster and making me think of you looking like 007 instead of looking at the photo.
earleygallery Posted June 22, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) Ever watch The Office? (the UK version). Remeber Gareth, the one who always kept going on about how he used to the in the T.A. and carried his mobile phone in a gun holster? Do you really want to look like him? Do you? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E2WZMTnxn8U/TdLomRAGFcI/AAAAAAAAAJs/T1lhxZlWfpE/s1600/garethgun1.JPG Edited June 22, 2015 by earleygallery
satijntje Posted June 22, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 22, 2015 Hi, I'm using one. Its great. Had it with me yesterday on a biketour! Would not have been possible with a neck strap! Go for it but get the grip and the fingerloop
bernie.lcf Posted June 22, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 22, 2015 The holster is actually not too bad. I ended up getting one today (John, I am looking at you! ). I doesn't look stupid at all - actually it looks like you have a mid size SLR hanging from our right shoulder on your left hips. That's all.
sls Posted June 22, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried one in Bruton Street, London UK store. Certainly comfortable, but can't see any great advantage over using the shoulder strap that comes with the camera.
bernie.lcf Posted June 22, 2015 Share #8 Posted June 22, 2015 Certainly comfortable, but can't see any great advantage over using the shoulder strap that comes with the camera. that's easy: with a strap the camera keeps bouncing around including bouncing the screen against zippers, buttons, belts etc. The Q is actually a bit better protected in holster - even if you go for half case plus strap. The holster will protect the screen and the sides.

I often also find that a strap wrapped properly around your writ and hand also serves as a good strap and grip.
bernie.lcf Posted June 25, 2015 Share #12 Posted June 25, 2015 Looks far too geeky and contrived. Just attach the strap and sling it on your shoulder. As I said above, it actually looks (when worn) just like a camera on a strap. Certainly nowhere near a pistol holster. Protection is much better with the holster than with the straps - for obvious reasons. I'm thinking for that reason getting the ever ready case The case is similar to the X-Vario case and has the same problem: you cannot detach the front part of the lens while shooting. It's always going to bounce around. On the positive side, the case has a hole through which you can get to your battery and SD card without taking the camera out of the case.
Nick De Marco Posted June 25, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted June 25, 2015 Thanks for the responses. Despite the amusing The Office photo, the balance of comments warms me to the holster - but I shall try one on before making the decision. Basically all I want is a way to take it everywhere, without a big bag, but also without always wearing it around my neck or on my shoulder causing it to bounce around and keeping my hands free. Photon42 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #14 Posted June 25, 2015 I'm thinking for that reason getting the ever ready case Try it in a store first. I actually think you cannot detach the front flap.
satijntje Posted June 25, 2015 Share #15 Posted June 25, 2015 Try it in a store first. I actually think you cannot detach the front flap. I can only recommend to get the grip and fingerloop as well. It is one natural movement, unclip the strap that goes over the holster while you put your 2 fingers in the loop and get the camera out. While you take it out you can switch on the camera with your finger and shoot. Works really great!
Nick De Marco Posted June 26, 2015 Author Share #16 Posted June 26, 2015 Mind you, this artisan strap looks good too for quick use and carriage: http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk/artisan-artist-straps/5957-artisan-artist-black-easy-slider-strap.html
lerkrel Posted June 26, 2015 Share #17 Posted June 26, 2015 I'm interested too in the holster, it can be a great solution to carry the camera with you in the mountains if it has a security lock and lets you wear the camera in the chest.
bernie.lcf Posted June 26, 2015 Share #18 Posted June 26, 2015 Mind you, this artisan strap looks good too for quick use and carriage: http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk/artisan-artist-straps/5957-artisan-artist-black-easy-slider-strap.html I have some 4-5 Artisan straps, some leather ones (not so useful, IMHO), two different ACAM-100, an ACAM-103N and I had the slider for some time. What separates the slider from the ACAM-100/103N is the loop that makes it slightly easier to adjust the strap length. Other than that, the 100/103N also let's you change length easily as the material of the strap helps. Artisan calls the material "Acryllic", but it feels like cotton - very nice and very soft, works well on bare skin. The slider is Nylon. As it is not a Nylon stocking, I find it less enjoyable on bare skin. All these straps make the strap a bit easier to work with, allowing for easier length adjustment. However, none of the straps helps with camera protection because the holster is still better - for obvious reasons. You can make the strap shorter to keep the camera closer to your body, but the camera display and the case are still going to bounce against buttons, zippers and whatever else is there.
chaynes4@me.com Posted April 10, 2019 Share #19 Posted April 10, 2019 Seems that the way accessories look is more important than the increased ease of making images while protecting the camera? I have a holster for the Q and M10, I don't use them all the time but if I'm on the street or out in "nature" they're the way to go, no bounce or swing and really good protection. For the M10 I had a leather smith sew the Visoflex tiny case on the strap next to the camera well so I have it when the need arises. Works well. Really doesn't look that much like the other kind of holster. Ever onward!
JimBo Posted April 10, 2019 Share #20 Posted April 10, 2019 Speaking of straps, I loved the three lug M5 and carrying the camera vertically...
