Advertisement Posted May 20, 2007 Posted May 20, 2007 Hi gdb, Take a look here Ring flash. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dkCambridgeshire Posted May 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2007 Would depend on whether or not you wish to use the TTL flash facility on the R5 ... if you are happy with manual flash mode then any ringflash with a big enough anulus to take the lens should suffice ... but is your 60mm lens, 55mm or series 8 type filter? And also deoends on how powerful a flash you need. I think Minolta used to market a decent ringflash which was compatible with Leica R ... and PK used to do a whole range of good quality ringflash systems which were available with Leica R modules. The more powerful ringflashes need their own power supplies and some were compatible with Metz 60 series battery packs and Quantum battery packs Cheaper ringflashes operate with 2 or 4 AA batteries but they are not necessarily very powerful ... depends on what sort of subject matter you wish to photograph and which type of film is used ... if you are planning to use a very small aperture and slow film then you might need a more powerful flash ... if you are happy with f8 or f11 and a 200 ASA film then a cheaper less powerful flash might suffice. I use a Canon macrolite ML-1 macroflash system on a 100mm macro Elmar with an R4SMod2 ... Christian Rollinger's Canon PhotoPage - Canon Macrolite Ml-1 flash instructions in english & japanese it gives better modelling than a ringflash and enables use of f16 at mag. 1.0 with 100 ASA film ... it is an automatic unit but I get better results in manual mode. The ML1 has a power supply with 8 AA batteries which is good for approx 75 exposures at full power. I also use it with a Quantum battery which gives more flashes and faster recycling. marknorton Posted May 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 21, 2007 Look for a Nikon SB-29 which comes with a variety of rings to attach to the front of the camera. I've always found over-exposure is potentially an issue, so the SB-29S which allows you to go to 1/32 full power. Exposure is a bit hit-and-miss though. With digital it's fine, but film would be an issue.
dhsimmonds Posted May 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 21, 2007 I am surprised that Metz doesn't have an answer for this demand?
