Ringside with Leica M

I often take my Leica to the various gyms to grab candids of the fighters. The major part of the shoots is usually done with my Canon cameras. After a conversation with a Leica rep about the new Monochrome, he expressed surprise at me using the Leica for boxing shots. Well that motivated me to take it one step further. I was shooting a pro fight card that night and decided to shoot more than just the candids that I usually reserve for Leica.

Really terrific work.  How did it "feel" working with the Leica as compared with the Canon?  Did you feel like you had a different perspective on making photos?  Were the photos you got with the Leica unique compared with the Canon?  Will you try this again?

I ask these questions because I have found that I (figuratively and literally) have a different window on a scene when using a rangefinder and often feel that my images from the rangefinder are something I usually wouldn't capture with a DSLR.

Nice pictures Peter.

You pre focused, I presume.

Thank you Franco,  No I do not free-focus, I follow the action around the ring continually changing focus and composition as I shoot.

Thank you, The experience is a bit different. I still need to anticipate the action, because once you see it in the viewfinder it is too late you will already have missed the shot. Although it is much more work trying to follow the action and focus - it does however free me to better compose the shots. Using primes also allows me to control the background to a greater extent, no to mention a considerably lighter camera.

Perhaps more on this later !
