Chris you should try C1 since the profiles are very good . Adobe Raw has a slight magenta issue which you can recalibrate also . But try several and see what you like. I have been on C1 for about 6 years so i am used to the program and recently been working in LR but LR i have turned down the saturation and calibrated the magenta too . There are no profiles for LR or RAW so you need to calibrate than save that but the generic c1 M8 profile is very good now , so I suggest to anyone play around find a process that you like. You on a Mac or PC because C1 is different on each

Carsten, Guy, - Thank you. I am playing with files and getting used to the M8 at present, but as I have doubts [and issues] about C1 LE, I am not sure if in the long run Adobe RAW will be the best route for me when the right profiles are in place. Given the doubt in your answers I think I will go cautiously with which files are opened in LE.

Any other responses to my question will be welcomed.

Chris,

Raw files that have been opened in C1 LE will subsequently open in Camera Raw - no doubts, no issues - I've just done it!

Well I've had my M8 just over a week now, lots of water under the bridge and no regrets about this move into the digital world.

The Martin Evening book has enabled Lightroom to come to life and start to work for me. I find that the Scott Kelby book isn't so easy to locate specific information assuming you have prior photographic knowledge. It does take you by the hand thro' well thought out scenarios. I need to start saving some presets to minimise my input and speed things up - however it is developing my understanding by being handraulic.

Having downloaded the On-one WOW presets recommended in another thread, I was swamped with the things and ended up deleting them. The ability to manage Lightroom presets into themed folders would be a great help. Is there a way of doing this? If not we should start an Adobe Lightroom Laundry list!

I have had a quick go with Capture 1 LE and will need to persevere to get results better than Lightroom. It will be preserved for when I need to assign an IR cheating profile.

No success with coding my Zeiss 28mm lens and haven't tried for the Zeiss 50mm which I bought last week. Don't currently feel the need to have another go, the images are coming out fine at present. Particularly like using shallow DOF which is a far cry from my 4x5 landscape pictures.

The photos I have managed to take have been really pleasing. Such an intuitive camera. Accurate framing is still an issue for me, but am definitely becoming more adept at judging how far to place the framing lines inside the image.

Accurate framing at all distances with all lenses is probably the biggest hurdle to me dumping all my DSLR gear. The lower megapixel count (16.7 -> 10.2) I can deal with (99% of the time anyway), but when you lose even more because you have to crop more than you expected, it's a killer for 'some' shots (not all). For personal use, this would be no problem, but when selling images, more MP seems to command more $. It's a sad fact of life that you can talk until you are blue in the face about pixel quality, for some people, MegaPixels=$Value.

Just when I think I have a good handle on it, I change lenses and I am completely out of whack again. The other day my 135apo was taking shots that were almost equal to the 90mm frame!

I just came back from an (almost) 2 week vacation, and walking around with my M8 was a pure pleasure. I had to chuckle every time I saw people with a 5D or D200/D2X around their neck and a back pack full of stuff. It was hot, and they were sweating! For the first time in as long as I can remember, the Nikon shooters out numbered the Canon shooters by about 2-1 (though mostly D40 & D50 stuff). I could see them all eyeing up each other's gear, and I could walk past totally un-noticed :) This is the most I have enjoyed taking photos on vacation for a very long time :D

Keith - thank you for the confirmation; that's very good news.

Guy - I'm using Mac. In talking of Capture One [i have LE of course], are you referring especially to the full version of C1? Money is tight, LE feels a little clunky, I'd rather not get the full version unless there are clear advantages with it.
