Poor gentleman says the exposure correction lever of his R8 was sticking so he unscrewed it, only to find that what it's connected to isn't otherwise secured and fell into the depths of the body. He naturally removed the finder ocular and was able to get several loose parts out--but he can't see any way to get it reconnected without removing the top plate.

 

So, he asks, does anyone know how to get the top plate off, and more importantly back on? At least, he remarks, the exposure correction lever is now clean.

 

(Unfortunately, he says, the R8 just came back from Solms, and the trip from there to Shanghai is long and slow.)

Thank goodness for that!

 

Anyone who's ever taken anything apart has had that feeling in their stomach when things come apart differently from how you expect. I rennovated a Leica Winder M last year and that has a ball race which comes apart unexpectedly - 40 tiny ball bearings on the loose, over the bench, on the floor... had to resort to vacuuming the room and sifting through the dust bag to find them...

 

No idea how the top comes off an R8, I'm afraid.

Maybe you should send the poor fellow the ball bearings? He apparently has room to store them in the R8.
