lawman Posted May 17, 2015 Share #1 Â Posted May 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just obtained a tri Elmar wate and trying to learn its ways. Does diffraction play a part at f22 on one or all 16-21mm focal lengths?? If so how stopped down can you go without diffraction problems?? Thanks
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Hi lawman, Take a look here Wide angle lens diffraction. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 17, 2015 Share #2  Posted May 17, 2015 I would’t worry about it. If you need a small aperture for photographic reasons, just use it. All apertures on a decent lens will give good results. Yes, detailed analysis and pixel-peeping will show some deterioration beyond say f 8.0, but other factors like small focus errors, motion blur, etc. will have far more impact, yet not stand in the way of a good photograph.. lawman Posted May 17, 2015 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 17, 2015 Thanks for the fast reply[emoji4]. 16mm at f22 gives some very interesting pictorial opportunities..
Mornnb Posted May 17, 2015 Share #4 Â Posted May 17, 2015 Well f8 at 16mm already covers around 0.8m to infinity. Only reason to stop down to f16 is if you left your ND filter at home.
lawman Posted May 17, 2015 Author Share #5 Â Posted May 17, 2015 f22 gave me 12" to infinity- perfect for a field of spring flowers with an interesting background
