Thanks to all!

That's because, unbeknownst to most of you, for a couple of weeks I read through as many threads as I could to find information about 50mm lens options for the M240.  I knew I wanted a fifty since it's my most used lens on my Canon.  But there are so many choices.

So rather than starting a new thread asking for advice, I found a bunch of interesting and informative threads.

I decided upon the silver 50mm Summilux ASPH.  I've had it for a few days now and have done mostly sample shots to get a feel for the focusing and handling.  I'll be taking it out soon and leaving the 35mm at home for a change.

I also want to thank Tony and Alex at Popflash.  Great people to work with.  Friendly, professional, and full service.  They helped me with my decision, too.

Just thought you'd all like to know that I've found this forum to be a mostly useful resource.

(By the way, I had an M4 from the mid 70's until about 2000 or so.  I had a 35mm Summilux, 50 Summicron, and 90 Tele-Elmarit.  I flip flopped the cron and lux this time and think I'm going to skip the 90.  I've already started reading threads about the 18, 21, and 24....but that will have to wait!)

Wonderful lens. It is my portrait lens due to wonderful bokeh. Sadly it doesn't get used much (I have drifted towards wider for general shots), but whenever I use it, it doesn't disappoint me.

You will love it.

Btw, on canon I had 85 1.2 for portrait (an excellent lens) and this 50 lux replaces that for me and is more useful by being wider. I do not miss my canon 85 1.2 (actually I do miss it but it's close).

Interesting!  I have the Canon 85 f1.2 and use it for portraits and such.  Also, the 50 f1.2.  I am wondering how my "workflow" and use of those two lenses will be affected by this new acquisition.

My 50mm Canon has been my favorite go to lens.

I spend much of the afternoon yesterday shooting the Summilux wide open, experimenting with focusing and otherwise trying to get a feel for it.

Thx for your comment (s).

My main issue with Canon 85 1.2 was mainly hit and miss of focus at widest aperture. In fact only after moving to Leica I realized how many AF shots were off focus by small margin !! Of course 50 Lux FOV is different than 85 therefore it is not a direct comparison (and both bokeh are delicious) but Canon is very specialized lens. Heavy and unwieldy. In the beginning I liked it so much that I carried it on a strenuous hiking trip as well. But over time it became indoor use only lens. In comparison 50 lux goes everywhere with me. It became more practical use lens.

Good man.

Good luck with the new lens…hope the focus is smooth, and accurate…an issue with some samples as you might have read….otherwise a marvelous lens.

Popflash has served me well, too, along with several other dealers over time.

Jeff
