I found that using the leica thin leather strap with the M8, the screws that hold the strap might scratch the body or worse the lcd screen. However by wrapping a piece of tesa canvas tape around these screws prevent any damage. I works well and is a cheap solution. Besides carrying a roll of tape in the camera bag is handy...

Hoi Nikolaj, thank you for your tip, surely you don't need tape for your M8 I hope ? :D

I had to make do with leather camera straps during the 1940s and 1950s. Thank God this is no longer the case. My M8 rides on a wide Domke strap.

 

Leather straps are inflexible, dry out and break suddenly if they are flexed repeatedly at the same place. Leather takes up damp and tend to mold. Synthetic webbing is the only good material for straps for working cameras.
