Daniel Beacock Posted April 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tried to search on here for this, but couldn't find anything. I was shooting at the weekend on a family day out and my M showed some very strange behaviour, and it's a bit hard to describe. Using the EVF I first thought that the Exposure Simulation setting, which I have set to Permanent, had been switched off as I was getting inconsistent displays in terms of brightness in the viewfinder. Then I noticed that, on consecutive shots of the same subject in the same lighting, the resulting pictures showed wild change in exposure levels. Then I thought maybe I'd switched to "A" and the meter was playing up, but I was definitely still in manual. Then I noticed that the setting on the shutter dial didn't match the settings shown in the EVF! Setting the dial to various speeds the display either didn't move or selected a speed either a stop higher or lower. To add to the weirdness, taking consecutive shots the results would sometimes show 2-3 different speeds across the total number of frames! And it wasn't just the display, the shots did vary in exposure, so the camera was randomly choosing those different speeds! Naturally I tried without the EVF. Same result. Tried taking out the battery and re-inserting. No change. The only thing that brought it back to normality was selecting the Reset option in the menu. So, anyone else notice this weird behaviours? Getting a bit nervous as my warranty is up in 3 months and last thing I want is some weird electronics failure! Any thoughts would be welcome! Manoleica Posted April 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2015 Speak to Leica Tech/Service - it may need to be Beamed up To The MotherShip...
viramati Posted April 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 22, 2015 just wondering if the camera had somehow got into bracketing mode and your reset took everything back to default. Just a thought
jaapv Posted April 22, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2015 Or you had spot metering selected plus auto-ISO in revert mode. If one is unaware it is switched on it will get inconsistent results when moving the camera just a little bit.
Daniel Beacock Posted April 22, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted April 22, 2015 Auto ISO! Heaven forbid! [emoji6]. No, classic metering and set ISO. No bracketing either, it was definitely only firing single shots, and exposure was far more random. Thanks for the helpful suggestions though. Reluctant to send it back, but also a little wary on keeping it. I'll drop by Leica Mayfair to see what they suggest, but I'm guessing they'll err on getting it checked out back at base. Ho hum....
