Capture One LE question

I am running Capture One LE 3.7.5 on a Macintosh. Or rather, I don't. I find that C1 will import JPG files, but not DNG. The DNG files are shown as file icons, but dimmed ... no import possible. What's wrong? What do I do?

Have these been run through the Adobe DNG converter? If so they won't work in C1.

No, directly from the card reader.

And I cannot believe that Leica would put a raw converter appliance in the box that would reject plain DNG files.

Lars, it'll only accept RAW files from the M8. Certainly as I mentioned DNGs that have been through the Adobe RAW convertor won't work. Very frustrating.

All right, the card was taken directly from the camera and put into the card reader, then seen in C1 LE's file import box. That I think would qualify as a 'RAW file from the M8' (I don't know of any other M8 raw files than DNG ones.)

Should I use the USB cord instead? But I don't think there's any conversion hard or software in the reader!

Lars, don't you need to put the files in a folder on your hard drive?

I haven't used C1 for ages, but I thought it created sub-folders in the folder containing the imported file to hold converted images and work files etc. Perhaps it's trying to do this on the card and there isn't room?

I'd try creating a folder on your hard drive, copying the DNGs to that folder and then try importing the images from that folder.

As I mentioned above I haven't used C1 for a long time, so I could be talking nonsense.

When you choose "Edit" and then "Open"----- The DNG files from your card stays dim but just click in the window "Open" and they will load up in your Capture One program.

Well, this is exactly what I did, as I remember, and it didn't work. But I'll try again. And 'open' is under 'file', not 'edit'.

They haven't. The software works fine so you are obviously doing something wrong.

Lars,

I feel for your frustration with C1LE. I have had problems myself but have persisted with trying to get it right because I believe it is a good processor, if you can get it to work. The 'help' files are next to useless!

I had importing problems and found that using C1 to import was fraught with trouble. My solution was to do the following:

Insert the card in the reader and use windows explorer or another program to COPY to your HD. In my case, I then use a program for re-naming the files to match my particular numbering code. It may be convenient to then move the files to a chosen folder, depending on your preferred directory structure. Then, and only then, open the files in C1LE. If that does not work I don't know what to suggest other than ...... well I don't know what!

Very good luck to you.

Lars, you again say that the DNG files are dimmed, but they are *always* dimmed. You can only open directories, as far as I know, not individual files. Find your files, and just click open, and all of the recognised files in that directory will show up in C1LE.

Steve - Or anyone. What about the other way around; can files once processed by C1 LE later be reprocessed through Adobe Camera RAW? My apologies to Lars because the answer will not help his immediate problems, but I am following this thread with interest as I have my own issues with C1.

Maybe, Carsten. But they stay completely inaccessible – while JPG files shot with the DNG and displayed next to them, are opened in the processing window with a simple click.

I am coming near to giving up on C1 altogether.
