sml_photo Posted April 21, 2015 Share #21 Posted April 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Canon 580EX2 (580EXII) works ok in "A" mode (thyristor controlled, and setup by enabling a custom function) or manual it will NOT work in ETTL mode, for a few reasons, mainly because the Canon ETTL pins don't match the Leica hotshoe the centre pin works just fine though - which is all you need for manual and A modes. 550EX and 580EX don't have A mode - so only work in manual mode. not sure on the other canon models. I did a little checking and got a response from B&H to try these Vello FreeWaves. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1040166-REG/vello_rfw_lr_vello_freewave_fusion_lr.html Might be what I'm looking for to fire Canon 600-RT flashes off of a Leica M 240. No TTL, but that's ok...

ski542002 Posted April 21, 2015 Author Share #22 Posted April 21, 2015 Update. Based on the recommendation of rbaron, I ordered and took delivery of the diminutive Bolt VS-210. It's a good fit for the M body, lightweight, simple to operate and has enough power to be a nice fill flash when shooting a wider aperture. And, the head tilts. A great buy for $38 US. ski542002 Posted April 28, 2015 Author Share #24 Posted April 28, 2015 Hello: Back on 4-16, rbaron replied with a suggestion of using the "Bolt" flash with the M. I purchased the flash, ran some tests and then made a simple bounce card device for the flash. (See attachment). Works great for close up quick 2-6 person groups where you must have flash at an acceptable aperture to hold depth of field (F4-F8). Not high-aesthetic light quality, but clean fast, lightweight and still retaining the high-quality imagery of the M. Thanks again to rbaron. Welcome, dear visitor!
