Very wide angles and UV/IR filters

The only reason i have not used my 21mm Elmarit on the M8 is the lack of UV/IR filter.

 

My question is this.

If I slip a 55e size filter on the 21 mm, can I expect any image cutoff at the edges? Will the M8's crop factor eliminate what would typically show up in non cropped image?

The only reason i have not used my 21mm Elmarit on the M8 is the lack of UV/IR filter.

Try it without the filter - you may like it.

with a BW slim ir/cut on a coded 21 Elmarit & I have seen no problems whatsoever

even with a slim polarizer added on top of the ir/cut, I see very little fall off at the edges, but it is just noticeable

the 1.33 sensor does have some advantages

Do you guys think that the leica filters are too thick?

As an experiment I've stacked two 55mm B+W FPRO filters on a coded 21mm and cannot see any additional vignetting with the lens focused at infinity, open or stopped down. So it looks as if there's a wide safety margin with standard filters when this lens is used on the M8.
