How it is shaping up

So I'm going to pick up an m8 with WATE in a few weeks - awaiting a local shipment to NZ. I've also decided to keep an m6 (.85), 1 M7 (.72) and Mp (.72).

I'm then off to Europe for a month or two. I was thinking of taking the following combination:

Bodies M8 and M6. Lenses: Wate, 28/2.0 Asph and 35/1.4 Asph.

I will be leaving home the following then:

1 x 21/2.8 Asph

1 x 50/2.0

1 x 50/Noct

1 x 75/1.4

Which brings me to my questions:

1. should I dump the 21/2.8? Will have the wate. Don't find myself using it that much at present. But with the m8 it is effectively a fastish 28mm, so maybe should keep it. However, I'm a 35mm (in 135mm talk) kind of guy?

2. should I dump the 50/2.0 (and maybe the 75/1.4)? Been look at the new 50/1.4. Would never sell the noctilux - just love it at f1.0. Though in digital I'm thinking that 50s are a bit of a nothing lens. Indeed, one thought is to sell both the 50/2.0 and the 75/1.4 and try the 75/2.0 asph. Any suggestions here?

3. any experiences with the 90 Macro with viewer? Another interesting choice as I just sold all my medium format macro equipment. I doubt though that I would use a 90/4.0 for anything other than macro situations.

Nice problems to have. What portfolio of lenses would you suggest? My emphasis is on:

1. candid and street typoe photography

2. family

3. landscape/achitecture

4. some macro work

Best

And my completely biased opinions, assuming your various lenses work correctly, is that you need a span of lengths and at least one fast lens but not a nocti (too big for travel)

So I would sell the 21mm, buy a 50 lux because it is a miracle lens, buy a CV15 with a Milich adaptor, and take:

CV15

28 cron

50 lux

75 1.4

but actually for travel and if feeling flush I'd keep but leave at home the 75mm and buy the 90mm macro. I've not used 'the kit' but the lens on its own can give very very nice results and is extremely compact and light.

The above kit with the 75 swapped out for the 90 macro is my favourite light travel bag covering all eventualities.

As Carsten said, biased - but hey...

Best

Actually, my travel kit will be one of the following, depending on the situation:

WATE, 28/2, 50/1.4A, 90/4M

WATE, 35/2A, 75/1.4

I could also swap the 90 Macro out for the 75 Lux in the first kit, if portraits are going to be a top priority.

We are so close on this Casten, except for travel I'd happily swap the WATE+Frankenfinder for a Milich coded and filtered CV15. C'mon... you KNOW I'm right...

Wow! So much advice.

I have the 28 cron already!

Seriously considering the 90/f4.0 and the 50/1.4., but I will never sell the Noctilux - special lense imho. That would involve selling the 21/2.8 probably.

I think I will sell an M6 + 50/f2.0 and use the funds for the 50/1.4.

B - I'm in Austria (wife's home country) and Sicily (father-in-laws boat is there at the moment) for about 6 weeks. Looked at the RS schedule, not sure it fits. But if you are in or around Austria.... How did you land a job with the RSs anyway... I used to own a little record lablel in NYC. We should talk. Also, could get an M8 tomorrow if I wanted one, but waiting for a new shipment. Just want one fresh out of the box, not a slightly used demo...
