sdai Posted May 16, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted May 16, 2007 It's a TOB (takeover bid) instead of a merger proposal at the beginning, as long as Pentax's shareholders accept the price, "current" management won't have much to say. I heard one of first things Hoya is gonna do is to reinstate the ousted pro-merger CEO Mr. Fumio Urano.

I heard one of first things Hoya is gonna do is to reinstate the ousted pro-merger CEO Mr. Fumio Urano. Â well that will be popular and it will mean that absolutely anything can happen to the camera div anecdotally, Pentax wanted to keep of all things, dSLR manufacturing alive but this turbulence will pretty well end Pentax's chances for succession in that market in the near term. Simply because development will stall, key people will leave, and new model development will recommence when the smoke clears, if at all. Â With Pentax out of the future dSLR market that leaves the tussle for #3 spot between Sony and Olympus.

Hoya probably will never care about this ... Leica, Canon, Nikon, anyone who buy glass from them will continue to help their business.  But this is certainly a great chance for Leica ... if not buying all of Pentax's camera division, Leica could go snatch something such as engineers, manufacturing facilities, in camera shake reduction, ultrasonic motor, AF module, premature models still on drawing boards ... etc.
Riley Posted May 16, 2007 Author Share #7  Posted May 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) i dont think they have much thats their own anymore the component industry feeds them the parts Leica dont need the Pentax name Leica can get comparable, if not better technology from Panasonic/Olympus  remember this is a business in trouble, maybe more trouble than its worth Hoya's objectives have never been particularly clear just what for instance has frightened Pentax about this deal until now ?  to top it off, I dont think Leica are in position to part with the cash
sdai Posted May 16, 2007 Share #8  Posted May 16, 2007 Leica can get comparable, if not better technology from Panasonic/Olympus  I believe the money Panasonic has made from using Leica's trademark is way much more than what Leica has collected from licensing. LOL  It's purely a franchise business I don't believe Leica has got anything worth a while from Panasonic ... even if Leica has got something, what would you expect from someone who isn't even among the best of Japan's second tier companies? Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd 334,402 employees Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corp we should probably stop there, but there are 231 companies owned by Panasonic  is that big ?
