Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted April 26, 2015 Share #81 Posted April 26, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I could never get the AF on my A7r to work reliably. A frustratingly large number of complete focus failures. My wife and my mate that also has the a7r both complain about the AF I am hoping that the AF on the a7ii is better

michali Posted April 28, 2015 Share #82 Posted April 28, 2015 Since the Sony A7r was released about 15 months ago I've been using it with both M & R lenses, primarily though with my Leica R lenses: 28-90mm V/E, 100mm Macro-Elmarit, 105-280mm V/E & 280mm f4, for wildlife photography. The Sony A7r has become my R solution. Speaking purely from my view & use, AF is totally useless; the images below are just 2 examples of why one would struggle with AF.... Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted April 28, 2015 Share #83 Posted April 28, 2015 Couldn’t agree more. AF is a hindrance instead of a help in such situations. Fine shots.
Venkman Posted April 30, 2015 Share #84 Posted April 30, 2015 How do you find the difference between the AF on the a7r compared to the new a7ii, my wife has the a7r and is complaining that the AF is slow Coming from rangefinder and using manual focus most of the time, my experience is that the Sony lenses are fast and the AF locks almost instantly on the A7II, where the A7r is hunting a bit, especially in low light. Some fellow photographers who switched and use Canon lenses with Metabone adapters had tears in their eyes when they saw the difference from the extremely slow Canons to the native Sony lenses, so I guess that makes a difference, too. Your mileage may vary of course, depending on from which system you moved to Sony.
