You must be misinformed, because you do not need to record as raw+jpg to be able to "chimp" or "review" your shot. Cameras that record raw only have no trouble doing this.

both XV and T use the jpg images for review rather than accessing the DNG's ...... and the quality of the image depends on what jpg resolution you have chosen.

I can only assume Leica has made a decision to use these as it is quicker than converting the dng's, adjusting them and displaying them/zooming/scrolling.

They are not going to change this fundamental design decision now .....

As I recall, the Monochrom is the only Leica camera which does not generate JPGs at all, and provides a preview of the DNG file on the LCD. I might be wrong, but I believe there is no tJPG thumbnail embedded in the DNG file, hence no thumbnail previews in Aperture or LightRoom of Monochrom files.

Does not LR offer previews? In my dim memory if there is an embedded thumbnail it displays it right away as it processes the DNG in the background to replace the preview. So in the case of the MM, is there not a modest delay and a preview?

Just wondering.

No. At least, there wasn't. I haven't used my Monochrom recently (too busy trying to get to grips with my M60), but it was always the case that you just got DNG logos. I thought one of the clever bits about the Monochrom software was that it could provide an image of the DNG file on the camera LCD, with the histogram.

My memory (or understanding) may be completely wrong as I have no understanding of any of this at all ...
