cv 21mm finder is just their 15mm finder with framelines

i read this somewhere. is it true?

I bought a CV21 view finder separately (didn't buy the lens) for the Zeiss 15, the view finder can be used with any 15 lenses on M8 due to 1.33x factor. So if you buy a CV15 lens, you will need CV21 view finder.

i know, thats precisely my point. if the only difference between cv 15 & 21 finders are the painted framelines on 21mm, while the finder itself is the same, perhaps there is no need to get them, while someone could just figure out a way to add 21 framelines on 15mm finder which came with our almost obligatory and much talked about lens?

Michael, if they are not identical they are very, very close. When I used my Voigtlander 15mm and 21mm with the M6 I only ever used to take the 21mm finder and used the entire viewfinder for the 15mm lens.

cool. good to know.

They are not identical, and i find the view in the 15 quite a bit wider than the full field of the 21. I've used the 15 on an M2 and found it pretty scary.

then, if the full view of 15mm finder is closer to 21, there doesnt appear to be a huge need, as these things dont prove to be very accurate with m8's magnification, for an additional 21mm finder, right?

is the voigtlander 21mm lense RF coupled, can you focus?

btw, what did you find scary?

The 15 on a full frame camera gets a lot more than the 21 finder shows,. So much, in fact, that it makes the world look really different. The looming figures (I often shoot from low down) are the effect that I translate as "scary." Not what I usually want to show.

I've been looking for a 21mm viewfinder for my CV15mm and M8.

I finally got around to mounting the 15mm viewfinder that came with the lens and did a little testing. Up to now I've just aimed and shot through the rangefinder. I haven't had any problem framing with the wide lens.

Because I wear glasses I can't get the full field of view through the finder anyway. Hence, what I can see corresponds almost perfectly with what is recorded by the camera after the crop factor. I was able to frame a variety of shots at a range of distances just fine with the 15mm finder on the M8.

What it lacks are the framelines. Framelines help to some extent with these very wide lenses in helping to keep horizontals and verticals straight. However, I'm disinclined to spend $140+ for some framelines. So long as I have an idea of where the vanishing point is in any given shot the perspective works out.

I just love this little lens. Don't have to worry much about focus and the DOF is just killer.

I think the 15mm finder will do me just fine. So long as I wear my glasses...
