danmitch Posted March 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a quick note, I have been playing with the new Photos app released with the beta version of Yosemite 10.10.3 today. As many suspected this is definitely not the Aperture replacement that was hoped for. It is clearly a step ahead of iPhoto but I am pleased I made the move to Lightroom rather than waiting. Advertisement Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Hi danmitch, Take a look here Aperture and new Apple Photos app. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted March 4, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 4, 2015 I've not downloaded the beta - the main change seems to be the inclusion of the Photos app (though I'm sure there are other changes under the hood). What I've seen of the Photos app makes me think that it's an improvement on iPhoto, but probably a big disappointment for anyone using Aperture. k-hawinkler Posted March 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2015 Since yesterday I have been running Yosemite 10.10.3. Seems stable. Played just a little with the Photos app. P&S target market IMHO.

I had a quick look, and it seems to be priced around, or slightly above, that of Lightroom. I think it's more likely for Aperture users to move towards Lightroom. danmitch Posted March 7, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted March 7, 2015 Apple will be allowing 3rd party plug-ins on Photos but I suspect they will take a little while to arrive.
justru49 Posted March 7, 2015 Share #10 Posted March 7, 2015 do you know this? https://photographylife.com/affinity-photo-possible-photoshop-alternative#mo you can download the beta for free. Its Apple exclusive and looks good. I'm sure that it will work together with the new photos App. J.S.
