Can it be turned off entirely, or do you just have to move the sliders to the maximum/minimum? I can't find the answer in the Instructions book.

 

With an image on the lcd screen, push the info button until you get the image display you want. There are several choices.

 

I think this is what you are looking for.

This thread came up after I googled for this topic on my recently purchased M 240. I went to the regular menu but didn't see how to disable the flickering clipped shadows/highlights play mode. Going to the INFO menu and pressing it a few times was indeed the solution.

I had the same issue as you years ago and fumbled thru the fix. The display I use is the pic preview only without the highlights.
