rafael_macia Posted February 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to begin shooting video clips on my M 240. The Leica instruction manual is very brief. Can anyone point me in the direction of more complete instruction? Or of any forums that discuss video with the 240 ? thanking all in advance for any help Rafael
Advertisement Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Hi rafael_macia, Take a look here Shooting video. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 18, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2015 You might do a search on m 240 video. I don't remember the thread where there were some postings about video. However, they were not informative in the way that you ask. You should be aware that the M (240) has a limit on video length -- of 10 minutes and a little bit. I thot this was related to a fat table limit. The post that I can't remember mentioned that the video limit for digital still cameras is the result of import tax that is levied on video cameras. The result is that video lengths are limited on all digital still cameras. In the case of the M (240), the limit is just over 10 minutes. If this works for you, I suggest a tripod. Playing with this feature, I found that I could keep refocusing and that the resulting video image was ok. Clearly, it is not friendly in the same way my video camera is. (I use a Panasonic HPX250 that is a little more expensive than the M (240) when all the necessary extras are included. I've got about 9k in this package.) I do like the quality of the M (240) video images. Regards, Bill
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2015 Rafael, I just looked thru the manual for the M and the instructions are clear -- they just don't mention the time limit. I would have expected to be able to read this information.
rafael_macia Posted February 18, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted February 18, 2015 Thanks Bill, I am interested in only short video clips 12-30 seconds. So the time limitations are not an issue. When I shot my first video with the 400 6.8 on a tripod, and experimented with using the "A" setting, as opposed to using 1/30-1/60. What would happen is; when a bright area, ( in my case a passing white truck) the whole video exposure would darken, then lighten when the white truck passed. Lightening and darkening is disconcerting, when watching a video, and using a non "Auto" setting .... a fixed speed setting is (probably), preferable. Varying the ISO might be the answer? Anyway, my first video .... much sharper in actuality.excuse the sound .... forgot to deal with ... thanks rafael ps the video is shot not using "A" setting
wda Posted February 18, 2015 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2015 Rafael, although not directly concerned, I do recall some interesting threads on this subject. One London-based member has had some success in competitions with his early attempts at M400 video sequences. Chris Trimble also has shared some experiences with video interviews for his clients. Worth finding those threads.
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 18, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 18, 2015 Rafael, the video works just fine. Nice going. I'm surprised at how little the 400mm lens compresses the space. Handy to have a videocam slung over your shoulder....
