pr28893 Posted February 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi The vertical alignment on my M-E is slightly out and I was wondering if anyone on this forum has had their M-E, M9 or M8 had this repair in London. It seems Aperture, RG Lewis, Leica Mayfair and Red Dot Cameras are unable to do the repair. I am loath to send to Germany and lose the camera for who knows how long for what sounds like a 10 minute job and don't feel like having a go myself. Thanks for your help. Peter I sent my ME back to Leica for a CLA plus new top plate which was dented due to an accident) they fixed my vertical alignment which was also out - took 6 weeks (based in UK). As I have trips to Japan and South Africa coming up over the next few months I think I will wait until a trip to Frankfurt in June when I will have time to pop over to the factory. pr28893 Posted March 5, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi Jaap It seems such a minor 'ailment' to send the M-E to the Netherlands, and the UK cost of sending anything valuable insured via Fedex or DHL is ridiculous. The vertical misalignment is an irritant rather than anything else. The M-E is focusing fine using the split image method. I have now found out that Aperture UK can do this adjustment. I noticed the other day that on the M9-P and the M, because they don't have the badge, the adjustment screw for this alignment shows on the front. jaapv Posted March 8, 2015 Share #11 Posted March 8, 2015 They really know how to screw you guys..... 27 Euro to return it to you insured! No, the screw is not for the adjustment. It is a cover screw that will reveal the adjustment mechanism when removed, just like the removal of the red dot on other models.. It is a little fork-and-hole on the M9/ME, and a 2mm hex screw on the M240. Secured by a blob of glue, which must be softened by a minidrop of acetone prior to the adjustment. For the M9ME make a special tool by grinding an L shape in a small screwdriver. Soften the blob, check on a point in the distance with the viewfinder and make small adjustments until perfect. Wait a few minutes for the glue to harden. Between 5 and 10 minutes work and well within scope for DIY. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
