james.liam Posted January 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Notice they come singe coated or multi-coated in B+W, or no mention at all of either for Heliopan. Any experienced suggestions?
Advertisement Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Hi james.liam, Take a look here Monochrom + ND filters. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 24, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2015 The coatings on Heliopan and B+W are quite comparable
2wk Posted January 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2015 I usually spring for the multi coating MRC for digital, or a nice lens. It is less prone to flare & ghosting and much easier to clean than a single coating. For my older less favorable lenses or BW film I sometimes just get a less expensive single coated filter. Then of course you have the XS-Pro filters which are much thinner than normal, and of course more $$$. Great for super wides so you don't get any filter vignetting. james.liam Posted January 25, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted January 25, 2015 The coatings on Heliopan and B+W are quite comparable Interesting that Heliopan makes no mention of the coatings. Is there an appreciable difference between SC vs MRC for a neutral density filter? Was set on a 4x Heliopan for my 50 Lux.
Jeff S Posted January 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2015 Heliopan offers most of their filters in either their standard hard coating or with SH-PMC 16 layer coating (8 layers per side), which they consider industry leading (coupled with Schott glass). One needs to read the specs (B&H, for instance, lists details for certain filters). The cost often suggests the difference, with various filters over $300.
