BerndReini Posted March 23, 2016 Share #41 Posted March 23, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) The M9 and MM1 are arguably capable of making some of the most beautiful files of any digital camera out there. Why would I concern myself with depreciation?
Advertisement Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Hi BerndReini, Take a look here M9 sensor problem killing trade-in values. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tobey bilek Posted March 25, 2016 Share #42 Posted March 25, 2016 If the value drops to some point where the cost of repair and value of camera is below some point, Leica probably will say it is not economical to repair. At that point you will be offered a discount on a new camera which has always been policy. Did I make a mistake keeping mine in air conditioned low humidity and not wet cleaning wishing to keep it out of the repair shop ? Maybe I should accelerate the problem. EdwardM Posted March 25, 2016 Share #43 Posted March 25, 2016 Deal with Leica Germany Head office! It works! I have my own story and after series of mails and finally paper letter to Lecia Management, I have achieved what was actually stated on Leica web site about trade in. In Russia. Period. What's possible in Russia is possible on Moon.
Geoffrey James Posted May 10, 2016 Share #44 Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) If you do this for a living, you can write the camera off over several years. So I am not particularly concerned with trying to recoup some of the original investment, which is already covered many times over by print sales. I do look for Leica gear and so I am not unhappy when I can get a deal, as I did with a backup M9. But there are surprisingly few deals on Leica lenses, the prices of which can be ridiculous. In several focal lengths, Zeiss beats them hands down on price-value ratio. I wouldn't mind having a back up Monochrom, though. There is nothing more terrifying than crossing an ocean and then having your gear go down. Once I was doing a commission in England with the Noblex, a scanning MF camera, and mine burnt out the first day. I managed to find one in London -- sold as new but turned out to have been used. Now I have four of them, but don't use them any more. I am getting rid of all my film gear, up to 8x10. Much I will give to promising photographers. Leica’s reply (attached at the end) has a good point that claiming no coatings after polishing the glass is a bit… stupid.🤪
