colonel Posted January 19, 2015 Author Share #22 Â Posted January 19, 2015 anyone comment on the difference in build between black and silver, or is it just the finish ? Â I am not familiar with Zeiss lens so not sure whether there is normally any difference in build
hossegor Posted January 19, 2015 Share #23 Â Posted January 19, 2015 from my experience they are the same (black and chrome). Â the built quality on my Zeiss lens is very good, no difference to my Leica stuff.

The difference is in the finish and also in contrast to Leica, the silver lenses are not heavier than the black.
sdk Posted January 20, 2015 Share #25 Â Posted January 20, 2015 Indeed, the ZM lenses are essentially the same weight for black or silver. The external barrels are aluminum alloy, with the silver having a satin finish on the metal, and black being black paint, not an anodized finish. So the black might be minutely heavier, but you wouldn't notice the difference. I prefer the Zeiss black finish because of the higher contrast with the markings, but the silver is attractive if you prefer a more understated finish, or want to pair it with a chrome or other non-black camera. microview Posted January 21, 2015 Share #26  Posted January 21, 2015 I think the silver 35/2.8 looks good on my black M(240) – but maybe that's because it replaced a Summaron 35/2.8 (a replacement I rather regret as the lower-contrast Leica was so good!). I always disliked the black Zeiss lens because of that bright chrome ring near the outer rim.
