Berth Posted January 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2015 !!How interesting...this snow has got to be a most unusual occurrence. Actually winter snow is quite common on the Colorado plateau, the elevation there is over 2000 meters.

allamande Posted January 5, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted January 5, 2015 Dee, Berth, Stuart, Thank you for taking a look and for your comments! Dee, Flagstaff is located on the edge of the Colorado Plateau, and the San Francisco Peaks (visible in the distance in this image) is the highest mountain range in Arizona with Humphreys Peak as the highest point in Arizona at 12,633 feet (3,851 m). So, snow is common at this time of year in this area of Arizona. However, in the last few years, the area has been suffering from drought with precipitation far below normal levelsl. This was taken right after a major storm that swept the west/southwest recently. Even in Southern California, temps were near freezing for one night (in lower elevations, which is unheard of).
