Jon Pop Posted December 25, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 25, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm trying too hard to not sound like a Leica fetishist, but bear with me. I have an MP and want to get a Leicavit for it. I really love the old retro "Leicavit" script on the older Leicavits and was wondering if Leica would do this for me. I know they do script on cameras, and I can ask them of course, but they might be pretty tied up these days replacing sensors (!). I've seen the engraving on the LHSA MP-3 Leicavits. Alternatively, do the old M2 Leicavits work on a new-ish MP? Just those rambling thoughts one has...yes, I know it doesn't make me a better photographer and I use my MP regularly (it doesn't sit on the shelf in a display box) - just love the way it looks. Advertisement Posted December 25, 2014 Posted December 25, 2014 Hi Jon Pop, Take a look here Leicavit script question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Nr90 Posted December 25, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2014 Tom Abrahamsson's website RapidWinder.com Home has quite a nice section on the leicavit. From his website: "The standard M3 camera bodies could not use the Leicavit. But the M2 (1958-1966) was equipped with the same winding shaft as the MP, and during the 1960's the Leicavit MP was produced as an accessory for the M1/M2 cameras. However, it disappeared from the Leica catalogue when the M4 was launched in 1967. (Because of the new three-pronged rapid film take-up spool, the M4 body could not use the Leicavit)." So, if your camera is the new MP and not the 1960s MP, I doubt you could use an old one. I think his look very cool though.

How do you like the LHSA version of the Leicavit? It's got the Leicavit on it and fits present models. Ivo

Ivo I have a LHSA version with the engraving and a normal one without the engraving on the front. I love both but the LHSA one is like the vintage one, so go for it- good luck to find one...
