Moss1310 Posted December 11, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted December 11, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone- I'm looking for some advice and information. I bought a used Tele Elmar 135 f/4 that looks to be in great condition. However when I put it on my M9, My viewfinder focus doesn't work. When adjusting my distance ring, the lens expands and retracts, but there is no change on the focus screen. I manually selected on my camera menu, but not sure what the problem could be. Any ideas? duckrider Posted December 11, 2014 Share #2  Posted December 11, 2014 Taking the lens from the cam and turning the focus You might see the arm for distance might not move, 'cause the grease is sticky. Give it a try to move the arm front- and backwarts by hand. otto.f Posted December 11, 2014 Share #3  Posted December 11, 2014 The messing 'knife' in the lens that leads the lever in the body that steers the rangefinder mirror, is quite recessed in the TeleElmar 135. So they made a sort of extension of this knife to meet and lead that lever, which is unique for this lens. In other lenses the lever has direct contact with the knife. This extension can be taken off with 4 screws. Is this extension still there when you look in the lens from t he back? Sorry for my English Welcome, dear visitor! Lenshacker Posted December 11, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted December 11, 2014 My early 1950s Nikkor 13.5cm F3.5 did the exact same thing, and the problem was exactly as Otto described above. I used a little Ronsonol (lighter fluid) to -very carefully- clean the old grease out. Works perfectly now.
jaapv Posted December 11, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted December 11, 2014 But if it is missing the lens is basically toast. There are no spares and if you find a donor lens the tolerance will be adjusted to the original lens head, readjusting it to another lens head is a major fiddly operation. Moss1310 Posted December 12, 2014 Author Share #6 Â Posted December 12, 2014 Hi Everyone- Thank you for your kind advice. I am new to rangefinders, so am not very technical. The problem was just as duckrider and otto.f described. The little extender was stuck. I gave it a little push and it popped into place:) and everything seems to be working fine now.
